Phelophepa Train:
On 8th March this train arrived at the Swartkops Station in Port Elizabeth. The train provides basic health care for those who cannot afford it. Retina SA, with the assistance of two volunteers from the Nightingale Trust were there to create awareness and answer the many questions on eye care.
Gail and Anton van Rooyen (Branch Vice Chairperson and Low Vision Assistive Device Consultant) was
invited by Dr Giles, resident Optometrist on the Train, to do a presentation to 12 optometric students from the Free State University.
The optometric students were doing community work on the train.

Port Alfred & Kenton-on-Sea:
In April Senior citizens, resident in 4 Retirement Villages in Port Alfred & Kenton-on-Sea had the opportunity to attend presentations hosted by Retina SA. The presentation focused on Age Related Macular Degeneration and the impact this condition has on an adult when vision is lost.
A display and demonstration of low vision assistive devices by Anton van Rooyen once again high

Fort Hare University: 7th April
Anton & Gail were invited by the Dean of Students at the University to do a presentation to staffand representatives of the Student Body on visual disability, vision rehabilitation and to provide information on how to establish a vision disability help desk unit at Fort Hare University.
